We "Build Exceptional Readers, Innovative Thinkers, and Caring Citizens"!

We are proud of our school and our students. We want to build positive relationships with our students and our families to promote the best educational experience for your child. We encourage academic success with high expectations in the classroom. We utilize a blended model of instruction that encompasses whole group, small group, computer centers that promote self-guided learning, and I: I teacher and student interaction.

We provide additional academic support with our before and after school ACCESS program. The ACCESS program supports students with tutoring and it also provides opportunities for enrichment. We also support students with RTI program (response to intervention) to offer additional help for students in reading and math.

Our school emphasizes many opportunities for STEM learning. Our library is a MakerSpace and students have the opportunity to explore robotics, 3-D printing, coding, and engineering. In addition to grade level opportunities, we have school wide STEM learning days where students participate in STEM challenges.

Every Friday, students earn the right to participate in SOAR time. We encourage students to be Safe, Organized, Accountable, and Respectful. During SOAR time, students get to choose a special activity for their related arts class. This is a favorite of our student body!

Our school has an incredible GSIA group. GSIA is our parent-teacher organization and they are so supportive of our students, families, and our school.􀃆Recently, they have completed a capital campaign to update our primary playground. All families are encouraged and welcome to participate with our GSIA.

The students, families, faculty and staff of this school are amazing and I am blessed to be able to serve as principal of Hal Henard.

Principal Bio:

I was raised in Greene County on a dairy farm and graduated from South Greene High School. I attended Walters State Community College, Carson Newman University for my undergrad work and got my Masters from ETSU. I have been in education for 24 years. I taught science (Chemistry, Biology, and Ecology) at the high school level for I 5 years.

I am married to my best friend, Danny and we have one grown son, Tyler. I love all kinds of animals and over the years I have quite a few. I had parakeets, snakes, lizards, rabbits, ferrets, horses, cow, cats, dogs, chickens, and guinea pigs. Right now, I only have one dog after I just said goodbye to my four-legged baby of 14 years, Nelson-a yellow lab. My remaining dog is Rosco-a rescue Golden Retriever. I am active in my church, Love's Memorial Church. I am an avid reader and my hobby is baking and cooking.
